About Gaijin Fujin

puroland_daniel1.jpg

Hello and welcome to my blog, Gaijin Fujin, which translates as “foreign wife” in Japanese. I’m 29 and married to a Japanese man, and this blog is written by me about our daily life and the various cultural ups and downs we encounter.

I will always be a “gaijin” to my husband’s family and will always represent something they don’t know, something foreign, something which is to be disbelieved or laughed at when in Japan.

Cultural misunderstandings are bound to happen, and when they do, it’s a learning experience. It’s sometimes funny and sometimes not. Sometimes i feel like i could scream and kick the walls because what Japanese people think about me is not always correct. What other people expect me to do is not always what i want or intend to do. Following rules is hard for me. I’m a natural rebel. Japanese society is hard for me to get accustomed to, all those strict rules, a million ways to make a mistake, to be socially shunned…ahh…so many ways i could embarrass myself!!

Yes, this is my life. I hope you will find it entertaining! Feel free to comment on my posts, i value your input!
